Apple Blossom Time

Apple blossoms

Few things are as lovely as an apple tree in full bloom. Maine is resplendent with apple trees growing seemingly wild, although some of those big, old “wild” ones were likely the result of being planted on the land decades before by previous owners and not just happenstance from a bird dropping. Not so this Macintosh, which is still a youngster in apple years. From a purely aesthetic stance, apple blossoms are delicate in appearance, scent and color, these ones just blushed with a hint of pink. An apple provides pollen for the spring pollinators, giving them a good reason to be in the yard from early in the growing season and into vegetable pollination time.
