You don’t need a garden to grow Tumbling Tom tomato from Pinetree Garden Seeds in New Gloucester, Maine. You just need a container. The first year we grew it, the pot was no more than a 12-inch hanging basket, which did well, but not as well as the year it was in the old whiskey barrel planter. That year it was nonstop tomatoes for weeks. The Pinetree catalog description says it all: “This cascading, branching tomato provides an interesting display in pots and hanging baskets. The vigorous plants continue to add additional vines that can grow to 2 feet so it will just pour out of any container. Yields are remarkably early and heavy and the flavor is the delightful sweet fresh taste that you expect from a cherry tomato. If you keep them picked, they will produce all summer.” Not bad for just $1.50.And if you don’t like yellow, there’s a red variety, too. Or get both and your salads will thank you.
