Fisher Salmon azalea

It can be tricky finding a hardy azalea, since most won’t make it in much of Maine. Seen in the Harbor Shore Landscaping display at the 2012 Bangor’s Garden Show was ‘Fisher Salmon,’ an azalea that will grow in a good portion of the state, with a Zone 5b rating. This evergreen azalea sports lovely salmon pink flowers that simply pop in the spring landscape. Like most shrubs in the rhododendron family, azalea prefers an acidic soil between 4.0 and 6.0 pH. Evergreen azalea hybrids tend to stay on the small side, with most well under 6 feet tall.
