Make a Wish

Torenia fournieri 'Purple Moon'

If you take a closer look at the flowers, you are more likely to guess the relative than the common name of Torenia fournieri ‘Purple Moon.’ A member of the snapdragon family — can you see it? — this annual grows 12 to 15 inches in height and can often be seen at greenhouses in hanging baskets. It prefers partial shade, but with enough moisture available, it can handle full sun. And to keep it in shape, pinch back as needed. As for the common name, it is known as the Wishbone flower. Hmm. Is it that little furl of color at the top of the bloom? Or maybe the anthers, which look joined together at the top on some of the flowers? We wish we knew.
