Cranapple Sauce

Cranapple Sauce

Whenever I use cranberries for a sauce, I usually make plain cranberry sauce or orange cranberry relish.

But when I had some apples earlier this week that needed to be used, I pondered for a moment and thought it might be a nice switch to use those with the apples.

What I got was a nicely sweet sauce where the apples easily tempered the tart cranberries.

Cranapple Sauce

5 Macintosh apples, peeled, cored and diced
12 oz. bag of cranberries, fresh or frozen
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Place diced apples in saucepan. Rinse cranberries and add to saucepan.

Add sugar and water, stir to mix.

Place over medium heat, stirring frequently.

Once mixture comes to a boil, lower heat and simmer for about 20 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Refrigerate after cooling.
