Sour Cream Bars

Don’t be fooled by the name: The sour cream is used to make this chocolate chip cake incredibly moist and tender. The recipe has been in our family for more than 40 years and is a quick, delicious dessert that’s always a crowd pleaser. We especially love them just from the oven when the chocolate chips are all melty and good.

No sour cream on hand? Use plain yogurt instead.

Sour Cream Bars

In a large bowl mix:

6 tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
1 cup sugar

Beat in:

2 eggs

Mix in:

1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/3 cup flour

Stir in:

1 cup sour cream (regular or low-fat)

Pour batter into a prepared 9×13-inch pan. Batter will be quite thick, so you will need to spread it out in the pan.

Sprinkle on top:

1  1/2 cups chocolate chips
1 1/2 tbsp. sugar

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Be careful not to over bake them or they’ll be dry. Serve warm or cooled.
