Epiphyllum - orchid cactus

Janine Pineo Photo | Epiphyllum – orchid cactus

The tag read Orchid Cactus, which in the grand scheme of things could mean more than one type of plant. It likely refers to Epiphyllum species, native to Central America. With its broad, flat stems that look like straps, the plant has an arching structure topped off with blossoms. It prefers indirect light and needs a steady supply of moisture, preferring it slightly drier in the winter. It also likes a surprising amount of humidity and can thrive sitting atop a dish of wet pebbles.
