China pinks are garden staples, usually seen in shades of pink, red and white. Enter Dianthus chinensis heddewigii ‘Black And White Minstrels.’ With its white edges and black-velvet centers, these blossoms are striking additions to the garden. They also are vigorous bloomers and should keep up a steady supply of flowers if deadheaded. The plants grow only about a foot tall or so and stay rather compact over the growing season, preferring full sun to part shade and and not minding a bit of dry soil. If their looks weren’t enough, Minstrels also have a sweet scent and make a long-lasting cut flower.
