Yes, meat in cookie form. Think about that.

Mincemeat is not just for pies. This recipe is incredibly easy and baked cookies can be frozen, if you don’t eat them all at once. (You will be tempted. Really tempted.)

The mincemeat recipe can be found here. We don’t recommend you use that rather nasty store-bought stuff.

Mincemeat Cookies

In a large bowl cream:

3/4 cup shortening (do not use butter or margarine)
1 1/2 cups sugar

Add:
3 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each

Mix in:
1 cup prepared mincemeat (recipe here)

Add:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Cookies will still be the tiniest bit soft in the center. Watch carefully or they will end up dry. Remove to cooling rack at once. Makes about 4 dozen.
