Children’s Garden Day in Brewer

June 9, 2012 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Come to Children’s Garden Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, on the Brewer Riverfront. With a chainsaw carving demonstration, music and a Tony Sohns’ presentation, the event promises to entertain all ages.

Brewer’s jewel of the natural world along the Penobscot River is unknown to many, which makes it the perfect spot to celebrate Brewer’s Bicentennial with the kids. Music, crafts and more will all be part of the party as children explore all the Children’s Garden has to offer.

The event begins with wood carver Josh Landry who will be giving a custom chainsaw carving demonstration. Watch as a block of wood comes alive and is transformed into an incredible piece of art. The carving being made will be joining the Children’s Garden permanently for all to see for the years to come. The carving demonstration begins at 10 am. See some of Josh Landry’s amazing work at his website:

Maine musician John Tercyak will be performing children music from his “Small Stuff – Kid Songs” and “Olde Stuff – Family Songs” collections. Tercyak has been performing for over 25 years and entertains with the guitar, fiddle and vocals. CDs will be available for sale at the event. Tercyak will be performing at 11 am and 1 pm. Don’t miss the “Life on Earth” program, a live creature demonstration of bug-eating plants, giant cockroaches, flying frogs, huge spiders and slithering snakes. Come learn about the less cuddly creatures that make Planet Earth so interesting and often slimy. Tony Sohns aka The Bug Man, is a naturalist and educator living in Bangor, Maine. He travels the state talking to anyone who will listen about is love for slimy creepy, crawly and often smelly things. The “Life on Earth” program begins at noon.

Other activities include making fairy houses, planting flowers & pumpkin seeds and more!
