NRCM Official to speak at Belfast Garden Club Meeting

January 21, 2014 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

The Belfast Garden Club’s public monthly meeting and speaker series continues Jan. 21, 2014, with a presentation by Judy Berk, Communications Director of the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM), who will discuss Maine environmental laws, including proposed legislation for the upcoming legislative sessions in Augusta.

The program is free to the public. The brief club meeting begins at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served at 1:45 and the speaker will begin at 2 p.m. The afternoon meeting and program take place at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church Parish House, 95 Court St., Belfast.

The NRCM is a Maine-based organization working to protect the environment on many fronts, mostly at the state level. But because federal policies can have serious impact here, NRCM also works with Maine’s Congressional delegation on issues affecting our state.

Judy Berk has been with NRCM since 1991. Her past careers include environmental writer, co-founder of Maine’s Energy Extension Service, and Executive Director of the Maine Solar Energy Association. She is an avid organic gardener, and her Northport garden has been on display in the Garden Club’s Open Garden Days.
