Peonies are an endearing flower, fascinating people across cultures and centuries, fueling obsessions and inspiring art, particularly in China where it is a traditional floral symbol. There are several flower forms, including the Japanese or anemone form. Pictured is Paeonia lactiflora ‘Hot Chocolate,’ one of the Japanese forms and described as a chocolate red flower. This one was photographed during the annual peony tour of Ken Liberty’s garden in Bangor.
