Wild Summer of 2012

We’re embracing summer with a nod to the wilds that surround us and a contest to celebrate that magnificent summer destination, Acadia National Park.

Just after summer arrives at 7:09 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 20, we’ll draw the name of a lucky winner for the terrific reference book, “The Plants of Acadia National Park.” Time to enter the drawing ends at 7:15 p.m. June 20.

Those who compiled this seminal work include Glen Mittelhauser, director of the Maine Natural History Observatory, which contributes to Garden Maine’s The Daily Plant with Wild Wednesday.

The terrific thing about this book is that it doesn’t apply just to Acadia, but to much of Maine. Within the parks boundaries reside 41 percent of the state’s flora, so you may find just what you are looking for when trying to identify a plant you find anywhere in the state. Read more about the book and how it came to be with this story.
