Magnolia brooklynensis ‘Eva Maria’ is a striking magnolia. With shades of purple flowing into yellow, the slightly fragrant blossoms are a delight to see. A cross between M. liliiflora and M. acuminata, M. brooklynensis ‘Eva Maria’ was introduced by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in 1968. Also known as cucumber tree, that name is derived from the shape of the fruit. This magnolia was photgraphed in May 2012 at the Lyle E. Littlefield Ornamentals Trial Garden at the University of Maine campus in Orono.
